Q: I have 2000 volvo xc70 with 150K on it, I was recently told that my center support bearing on my drive shaft id gone, I have called the volvo dealer and they told me that I need the whole drive shaft because mine can’t be repaired, the also quoted me $1100 for new one, could you please tell me if there are other places where I could but one for less perhaps even used one.

A: It is very common for these drive shafts to fail right now since these are already over 10 years old and you are lucky to have one that lasted so long, I don’t recommend used ones because these are all bad right now and it wont last long,  luckily there is alternative, you may buy new rebuilt drive shaft for your 2000 volvo xc70 for around $525 which is half of what dealer would charge you, it comes with all new u-joints and new center support bearing, I highly recommend that solution, here is a direct link where you will find such a drive shaft, since you are working on your drive shaft I would also recommend checking oil level in angle gear, if it fails it is much more expensive than a drive shaft and there is no alternative yet.
