Q: I have a volvo 240 dl and I can’t start it, it looks like I can’t place my shifter into parking position, could you please help,

A: Hello, It looks like your bushings might wore out, there are 2 bushings under the shifter that  need to be tight otherwise shifter will have a play and it won’t be able to get to the parking and I suspect it wont go into lowest gear, that would explain everything, each bushing cost $15 at the dealer and it is very easy to replace, you need to lift driver side of the car and you will see line going from transmission to the shifter, when you move it by hand you will see what I mean,
